I know, I know. You’ve got your wedding budget spreadsheet in front of you and as you continue to get quotes back from all of your preferred suppliers, the costs are adding up. You’re probably reading through them all and see-sawing between thinking “Yikes that’s too much,” and “It’s our special day, YOLO!”
I get it.
It’s true, weddings are expensive. The sad reality is that those floral installations you saved on your Pinterest board as a naive teenager, you now realise probably cost the same as your car. So when it comes to a wedding video that you know will have you forking out the $$, is it worth it?
Well OK, I’m probably biased and not the best person to ask. But I will tell you this for free. Not a single person I know has regretted spending the money on a good quality wedding video. So my first bit of advice to you would be to ask around - hit up your married friends and ask them if they had their time again, would they still have a videographer? I can guarantee that all of them will say yes. Why? Because your wedding day is a blur, and while it’s likely to be the best day of your life, you’re not going to remember it all. Seeing it play out again is like watching your very own rom-com. You get to relive all the little details that made the day so special. And trust me, it will be your favourite video for years to come.
So now that you know you want a video and you’re willing to invest in a good wedding videographer, how can you make the most of it? These are my top tips for an unforgettable video, one that banishes anything remotely cringe and instead leaves you with a heartfelt love story you can’t help but watch again and again.
1. Spill Your Secrets:
Firstly, it’s all in the preparation. Are you ready to get chatty? Before the wedding day rolls around, speak with your videographer about what you’re dreaming of. Want to immortalise that first look? Or maybe your bridal party's epic dance moves? Lay it all out there! The more I know about your vision, the better I can capture those heart-fluttering moments.
2. Timing Is Everything:
Timing is SO important on the day and we don’t want to miss anything, so make sure your run sheet is as accurate as possible and be sure to share it with me in advance. The last thing we want is to be rushing through the key shots, especially when the clock is ticking i.e. during sunset. A well-planned schedule means more time for making magic.
3. Be Yourself:
I know, I know. It’s a cliche, but it’s true! Your wedding day is not the place for putting on a show or pretending to be something you’re not. Trust me when I say the best footage comes from authentic joy, laughter, and maybe a couple of happy tears. So, all you need to do is relax and be yourself. Your wedding video will thank you for it.
4. Trust Us:
You hired a wedding videographer for a reason—we know what we’re doing! After months (or maybe years!) of planning, it can be hard to let go on the day. But from the food, to the music and your photos/video, trust that you have hired the right people for the job. My style is to fade into the background on the day so I can capture your authentic love story. That can come across like I’m not engaged, which is not at all true! I’m just working hard to get the shots I need to bring your rom-com to life. Trust me, you’re going to love the final result!
Still not sure? Worried you’ll be awkward on camera? Can’t shake the feeling that’s it’s not going to be worth it? If you’re getting married in Perth (or abroad) reach out and let’s have a chat about what you want your wedding video to look like. I can help put your mind at ease and reassure you that you’re making the right decision.
